As I continue to refine and edit Malice & Murder (working title The Whisper), I found myself faced with a dilemma. Because I used Steven Hunter, one of my heroes from the Spy Series, as one of the protagonists in this book and the story reaches back into his childhood, the location of the book was, of necessity, England.
Where I got myself into a bind, was writing about police procedure in the UK. I know nothing about the structure of their police departments, nor do I know anything about their procedures for arrest or for interview of a murder suspect. North American procedures I can access, the UK presented a difficulty.
While I envision Malice & Murder to be a light, entertaining and intelligent read, if four murders can be called light, it needed to be correct. What to do?
Fortunately for me, in one of the writers forums that I follow, I came across a post advising of an intriguing website that could assist to give faces to characters as a writing tool. I checked out the website of the poster and eureka! I found gold.
The website chronicles the UK police system for writers; it’s a wealth of information. The Writer will also answer questions pertaining to UK police procedure. If you have any need for this type of information, check out the website: http://crimewritingsolutions.wordpress.com/
