My ‘Other’ Life: The Halifax Kennel Club Show

This past weekend was spent in my other life, in the limelight of the dog show ring,  judging a purebred dog show in Halifax, Nova Scotia on the far east coast of Canada. In this electronic world which many of us chose to embrace, sometimes it is easy to forget that it’s a big world outside the confines of our keyboards.

The people associated with the Halifax Kennel Club know how to put on a dog show.  The venue was outstanding, the organization flawless and we were treated to an awards banquet on Saturday night sponsored by the dog food company Eukanuba, which was first-class all the way.

All in all, it was good to get out and breathe in fresh air (albeit it was mighty fresh at 5:30 am on the way to the airport) and connect with some old and some new friends.

Weather threw a wrinkle into my travel plans with the result that the trip home took over ten hours, but as we circled across the bay and came into Vancouver to land, the thought occurred to me that in less than a day, I had travelled from one coast of Canada to another, some 3,000 miles, which was about as far from my computer keyboard as could be.
